Khourou Mbacké — The Village of His Blessed Childhood
Khourou Mbacké holds a unique and sacred place in the early life of Shaykh Ahmadu Bamba. Here, in this tranquil settlement founded around 1780, his parents — the jurist and educator Mame Mor Anta Saly and the saintly mother Mame Diarra Bousso — established a haven dedicated to Qur’anic teaching, Islamic sciences, devotion, and moral discipline.
It was in this serene environment that the young Bamba spent his formative years, absorbing knowledge, discipline, and the luminous spiritual refinement of his parents. Though he was later taken by his father to Nioro in response to the call of Almamy Maba Diakhou Ba, the spiritual imprint of Khourou Mbacké remained forever on his path. More than twenty years afterwards, he returned to revive the village, fulfilling a destiny foretold by his father and anchored in divine decree.
Khourou Mbacké is also remembered for its profound spiritual trials: several of the children of Shaykh Ahmadu Bamba, having passed away in infancy, were buried here at his instruction. Their resting place remains lovingly preserved, a sacred reminder of patience, acceptance, and divine wisdom.
To this day, Khourou Mbacké continues to thrive under the guardianship of the descendants of Serigne Mbaye Diakhaté, the noble disciple entrusted by the Shaykh to revive and protect this sacred village. Every year, pilgrims visit to honor its legacy — the birthplace of a luminous spiritual tradition that would transform Senegal and inspire seekers around the world.
